This is God’s will for us

In June 2007 we moved from Ukraine, where we had been missionaries, to Romania. In the same month we came to Caminul Felix for an interview to become house parents. After we were selected we started the training time in a Felix home for three months.

During this training time we started to realize what it means to be parents at Caminul Felix, experiencing good things, but difficulties too. During this period of time we reflected again if this is what God wanted from us. We found ourselves small and helpless in the ministry, but God has encouraged us by the verse from Zechariah 4:6 ”Nor by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit”, says the Lord Almighty.” We understood that for a job like this our strength and power are not necessary, but to be full with God’s Spirit is. This is God’s work.

After these thoughts, and being convinced that this is God’s will for us, we started to be Felix-parents in the Oregon House at the end of November 2007. It is not a very long period of time, but it is enough to have a little experience already.

That’s why we can say that being house parents at Caminul Felix involves a lot of responsibilities, patience, love, wisdom, but in the same time there is a fulfillment because we realize that what we do is eternal. This ministry gives us the chance to practice our faith every day, offering love without expecting something in return, giving our lives and praying for our children. In the same time we have set goals. Our main goal is to see the kids being rescued from a hard past, healed from the emotional traumas from their young years, and someday become harmonious adults of our society. We know this is a process, which takes a lot of time. It’s necessary to pursue and a hard thing to accomplish. It requires our effort and the children’s availability; however our happiness is that every child from our house has the chance to hear about God and choose Him for life. We do our best to present what we believe is best, but the final decision belongs to them.

To get to this high goal we decided to follow small and realistic steps like replacing the old habits with good ones. For example, learning good manners at home and in society or teaching the children to become responsible for what they do. We would like to teach them that everybody is accountable for what they do and all actions have consequences.
We enjoy every small step taken and know we will get to the final goal, which we have set out for. We pray for our children and have great hope for them.
